French Letter
So who and what are French Letter?
French Letter condoms make condoms with latex that is harvested under sustainable and FairTrade conditions. It’s not all done how French Letter do it though: Unfortunately much rubber production around the world is far from fair. Many thousands of people working on plantations in countries like Cambodia, Thailand and Liberia face appalling exploitation. Low wages, no social protection and child labour are a common feature of the most unscrupulous management practices. By purchasing French Letter condoms consumers are guaranteeing higher wages and better living and working conditions for rubber tappers in South Asia.
So apart from the FairTrade conditions, what else is good about French Letter condoms? Well, their condoms come in beautiful packaging that you won’t mind showing off. All French Letter condoms are BSI Kitemarked (meet British Standards) and CE marked (meet European Standards).
And a bit more detail about the fair trade conditions…
French Letter get their latex from FairDeal Trading. FairDeal Trading apply the same principles to latex rubber as are already used in FairTrade food products: They pay a premium to the latex rubber producers so that they can improve their standard of living and build stronger communities. The premium paid is used to provide piped water and improvements to facilities and conditions. It may sound basic to us but these things make a big difference to people’s quality of life. The premium has also allowed ‘New Ambadi India’ to gain certification with the FSC for sustainable production. FairDeal has also established a fund which helps employees send their children to better schools, giving them an improved chance of moving up the socio-economic ladder.
There are currently four varieties of French Letter condoms:
- Stimulating massage – smothered in indulgent studs and ribs
- Sheer caress – for a natural feel
- Linger lust – with integrated potency ring to enhance performance
- Aphrodisiac – delicious and stimulating scents
They contain no animal derived ingredients so they’re acceptable to vegetarians and vegans.
