Durex
Well, who doesn’t know about Durex? Durex is the most popular brand of condom in the UK and globally Durex makes around one billion condoms a year. That’s a lot of latex!
Durex has been around for a while; founded in 1915, the Durex brand was trademarked in 1929. The name was taken from the first letters of three words – Durability, Reliability and Excellence. You’ll be glad to know that Durex tests its condoms plenty – they test them electronically, they fill them with air until they burst (ooh, can we have a go) and fill them with water to check they don’t leak. They even go beyond the worldwide safety quality standards. All in all, it’s safe to say that many Britons place their trust, and a little more besides, in Durex.
So how do Durex make their condoms?
Once they have some latex that they’re happy with, they treat the material in some fancy ways with chemicals and heat. Doing this makes the latex stronger, more reliable and less allergenic. Then after (surprise surprise) a bit more testing, the latex goes through a couple of rounds of temperature controlled forming, heating, washing and powdering. After all this the condoms get to ‘mature’ for a couple of days – yes, we do mean that and we’re not talking about wine. After being tested electronically, they get packaged up in those foil wrappers (together with any lube or flavouring or the like). Once the foils are heat-sealed you think that’s it? No, sure enough, there’s more testing that is done on lots of condom samples. Quite a process in order to be confident in your protection!
Durex now and in the future
Durex aim to do more than offer contraception and protection: They want to give us better sex too. Why do we say that? Well, over the last few years Durex have started making all sorts of goodies from vibrators and penis rings to flavoured and extra-stimulating tingle-tastic lubricants – even massage melts that are designed to be frozen!
We say, if you’re not quite getting there with your orgasm, or perhaps you’re getting there a little earlier than you planned then perhaps you could check out some of the more risqué products that we offer!
