Extra safe condoms
Extra safe condoms are made to be stronger and safer in two ways. They are made with a slightly thicker material and also have more lubricant than other condoms. The extra lube reduces the friction which, in turn, reduces the chances of the condom splitting. If you care about your health (and let’s face it, we all do) then extra safe condoms are the way to go.
In fact, although some condoms are referred to as ‘safe condoms’ or even ‘extra safe condoms’, all condoms sold in the UK (other than for novelty purposes) must pass the same safety tests. You should only ever use condoms that are CE or Kitemarked.
The condoms that are marketed as extra safe pass the safety tests by a greater margin so it is the case that you are getting a safer condom. If you want take even greater precautions against an unplanned pregnancy you could also consider using a spermicide, though it’s worth noting that spermicides do not provide any protection against STI’s.
